Wildcat bowlers Kye VanEss and Jayse Henkel were selected to the all-tournament team.

Wayland varsity boys bowling team had another great tournament showing by qualifying fourth out of 17 teams Saturday at the Jenison Invitational.  

The top five teams made the cut for step-ladder finals, not brackets, like other tournaments.

The fourth and fifth qualifiers met first.

The Wildcats took on Ludington in the first playoff games and defeated them 177-133 and 167-149.  Total pins moved Wayland on to face the third ranked team.

“We knew we needed to fill some more frames against a tough Greenville team,” coach Sherry Miklusicak said. The ‘Cats lost both games,216-168 and 180-151, giving them a final finish of fourth place.

Greenville had also defeated the number 2 seed, Jenison. The Yellow Jackets were also up on the number one seed, Grandville, by 28 pins after game 1.

“I am super happy with our finish as Grandville and Jenison are Division 1 schools!” exclaimed Miklusicak.

Jayse Henkel made the all-tournament team, qualifying seventh (averaging 202) and Kyle VanEss, qualifying ninth (averaging 198).

The Wayland Union Girl’s Varsity bowling team finished eighth out of 15 teams Saturday at Station 300 in Grandville.Ashlynn Dykstra, freshman, led her team with a 144 average.
