The Wayland boys’ tennis team Monday night battled visiting Kenowa Hills to a 4-4 tie to open the O-Gold Conference season.
At first singles, Christian Sieffert met his match in Logan TenBrink, falling 1-6, 1-6. At second singles, Jackson Chesley fought a grueling match that went into a full third set in order to settle the match. Kenowa Hills outlasted Chesley, taking the third set 6-2. At 3rd singles, Andrew Murphy also battled his opponent to a third set tie-breaker, but ultimately fell 6-2, 1-6, 1-6.
Nolan Ritz was the only Wildcat singles player to register a victory. He took the first set in a tie-breaker 7-6 (7-5), then the second set 6-4.
In doubles, the team of Elijah Kincaid and Brady Atwell also met their match, falling 4-6, 2-6.
“The rest of the doubles matches went more smoothly for the Wildcats, as the second, third and fourth doubles teams took their matches in convincing fashion,” said coach Ben Adams.
At second doubles, Mark Musgrave and Austin Graham won 6-2, 6-1, at third doubles Cam Sieffert and Theo Oddy won 6-1, 6-0, and the fourth doubles team of Aiden Ketchapaw and Carson Beck took their match 6-0, 6-0.
The Wildcats will travel to Ottawa Hills Wednesday night for their next Conference match.
