The Wayland varsity softball team rebounded nicely Thursday from its 4-1 season-opening loss to Division 1 opponent Jenison last Friday.

The Wildcats took out state-ranked Byron Center at their home field opener to even their overall season record at 1-1. An offensive highlight was a home run off the bat of junior Kami Morse.

In the 12-3 victory over Byron Center, Kami Morse was 4-4, with a home run.  Emma Ludema and Harmony Laker had two hits apiece. Laker hit a triple.  Emma Tornes, Jada Mohon and Kennedy Cole each had a double.  Grace Kincaid, Hannah Rairigh, and Rya VanderKooi each had a single.

Emma Ludema took the victory on the mound, striking out 7.

Wayland will take part in the Gull Lake Invitational Saturday morning, beginning at 9:30 a.m.
