The Wayland boys’ varsity basketball team improved its overall season record to 7-2 and 2-0 in the O-K Gold Conference with a 76-65 win at home Friday against Wyoming.

It was the first time the Wildcats played in the friendly confines of their home gym since the holiday break. They had played at the GRCC tournament and at Middleville Thornapple Kellogg earlier this month.

Senior 6-8 pivot Cory Ainsworth again led the offensive attack with 20 points, 19 rebounds and six blocked shots.

Sophomore guard Riley Fields scored 14 points and dished out five assists, senior forward Jack Donewald added 13 and senior guard Ternor Hudson contributed 12.

Ainsworth now is averaging 23 points and 8.6 rebounds per game.

Menilek McGee led Wyoming with 17 points. The Wolves’ overall record fell to 3-7 with the defeat.

The Wildcats will play Tuesday at East Grand Rapids in another league contest.
