The Wayland boys’ varsity bowling team lost 18-12 to Forest Hills Eastern Wednesday at Airport Lanes in a dual match between two school sin the O-K Gold and Green Conference.
Coach Sherry Miklusicak wasn’t particularly impressed with her guys’ performance in picking up spares.
“We are feeling irritated today (coach is anyway), as we didn’t perform well to start the evening,” she commented. “Baker games of 142 and 152 will not win very many games. We had 9 opens out of 20 frames and I know my boys are better than that!”
So the Wildcats were down 10-0 at that point.
“We needed to step it up in the first set of individuals and we didn’t, with the exception of Dylan Roberts’ 205,
the coach said. “He is showing some real leadership taking over for our absent anchor bowler (Dillon Smith) who is still out with the flu.”
Wayland lost one point by only five pins and another by nine. The team total was 766.
“With a quick chat I assured the boys that they wouldn’t have another poor game,” Miklusicak said. “We had some self pride and integrity to show. I knew they would come back.”
Come back they did and then some. They took every one of the last 11 points. Jordan Peters had high game of the evening (on the boys’ side) with a 209. Following the ‘Cats leadoff was Christian Courser with a fine 193, then Joe Laidler with 152, Bryan Franck with 186 and Dylan Roberts with a 189.
Wayland’s team total this game was 163 pins higher than the first for a 929 game.
“We need to improve our spare shooting if we want to get better,” the coach said. “If only we could get those Baker games back….ah but that is the past and we will leave it there.”
