The Wayland High School softball team concluded its regular season Wednesday by sweeping Grand Rapids Ottawa Hills in a makeup doubleheader.

The Wildcats won the opener 21-0 in three innings and they mercied the Bengals again in the nightcap, 17-0. The sweep left them undefeated yet again in league play, at 14-0.

Ottawa failed to have a baserunner in both games, getting no hits and no walks.

Kami Morse and Reese Veltman both collected two hits in game one and Harmony Laker, Carli Miklusicak and Izzy Johnson added one apiece. Milkusicak’s was a triple and Harmony’s was a home run.

In the nightcap, Mikluisicak took the victory on the mound, struck out 7 batters, in 3 innings of play. Leading the Wildcats’ attack was Harmony Laker, going 2-2, with a home run.  Shelby VanHouten added a double with two walks. Liberty Laker was 3-4, with two doubles and four RBIs. It was Wayland’s 28th league softball championship.

Wayland completed its regular season with an overall record of 29-8. The ‘Cats will begin post-season district tournament play Saturday, June 3, at home against Allegan. If they win, they’ll play again at 2 p.m. against Hopkins, South Christian or Middleville Thornapple Kellogg for the district championship.
