The Wayland varsity baseball team took the rubber game in the three-game series this week with Hastings, by recording a 6-4 victory Thursday.
The Wildcats fell behind 3-0 in the first three inning, but rallied for three runs in the top of the fourth, added two more in the fifth and an insurance run in the sixth.
Chris Kincaid picked up the win on the mound, but the real story was the bats of Wayland.
After a slow start, the Cats combined to get 13 hits against the Saxons, driving in six runs. Hunter Brown, Zach Brog, Mitchell Swainston, A.J. Page, and Matt Schaendorf all had multi-hit games.
“Our veterans stepped up tonight and carried us,” said Wayland coach Mike Doupe. “Our heart-of-the-order guys did what they do, and we got a lot of help from the rest of the lineup as well. When a team can hit one through nine, that’s a dangerous club, and we were able to do that tonight.”
The Wildcats are now 6-8 overall for the campaign.
