The Wayland Union High School varsity football team lost its season opener Thursday and Friday, 28-20, at Kenowa Hills.

Half of the game was played Thursday evening, but postponed until the following afternoon because of lightning and a severe thunderstorm. The Wildcats entered the contest Friday afternoon down 22-14 at the half after scoring two touchdowns in the second quarter.

Both teams scored a touchdown Friday afternoon with no conversions.

The Wildcats will play their home opener at 7 p.m. next Friday against Lansing Waverly.
