Wayland’s baseball team could not take advantage of another quality outing by southpaw senior pitcher Zach Brog Thursday and lost 3-2 to Middleville Thornapple Kellogg in an O-K Gold Conference encounter.
The Wildcats actually scored twice in the top of the fifth inning to take a temporary 2-1 lead, but TK came back with two in the bottom of the fifth.
Brog went 5 innings, striking out 8 and giving up only one walk. He threw a no-hit shutout at Zeeland West earlier in the season.
Hunter Brown and A.J. Page scored on a two-run single by Brog in the fifth inning, when Wayland took its brief lead. Middleville outhit the ‘Cats 5-4.
The Wildcats, now 1-4 for the season overall, have a quick turnaround as they play a double header against Middleville Friday.
