The Wayland girls’ soccer team wrapped up its regular season Monday night on a high note, beating Hastings 4-0.
Coch Ben Sleeman said the game started well, with the Wildcats pressuring the home side and consistently. Lynnsey Hooker opened the scoring on a nice pass from Sarrah Sweeris and they didn’t look back from there. Ali Cutler added to the scoring a few minutes later on a Brinley Nieuwenhuis assist and Sarrah Sweeris added an unassisted goal late in the half to give the visitors a comfortable 3-0 lead.
The second half saw more of the same as the Wildcats dominated possession and eventually added a late goal to the tally when Brinley Nieuwenhuis played a great ball into the box for Hanna Moulenbelt, who drove the ball into the back of the net.
Wayland had 23 shots on goal to keep the Saxons’ keeper busy all night.
The win brings the girls’ overall record to 11-7-1 and their conference record to 6-4. They will be back in action at home on Tuesday at 6:00 vs Battle Creek Harper Creek in the first round of district play.
