Kami Morse

There’s an old saying that “There is no rest for the wicked.” Coach Cheri Ritz has amended it to “There is no rest for the Wildcats.”

Wayland Thursday afternoon swept a unscheduled non-league doubleheader against Ravenna, 5-0 and 9-2. After the showdown Friday with Jenison was canceled, two contests were arranged with the Bulldogs. It was their 16th game in 10 days.

Kami Morse and Kennedy Cole led the offensive parade in the opening game, going 3-for-4. Cole delivered a single, double and a triple, only a homer away from hitting for the cycle. Liberty Laker and Oakleigh Hulst both were 2-for-3. Rya VanderKooi blasted a triple, Hannah Rairigh added a double and Kaelyn Sikkema a single.

Emma Ludema took the shutout victory on the mound, allowing three hits and striking out 12 batters.

Leading the Wildcats’ attack in the nightcap was Kami Morse, going 3-for-4. Harmony Laker added two hits in three trips to the plate. Kennedy Cole was 2-for-4 with a double, and Hannah Rairigh, Rya VanderKooi, Emma Tornes and Jada Mohon each added a hit.

Harmony Laker took the victory on the mound.

The Wildcats next week will polish off the O-K Gold season with a doubleheader against second place Forest Hills Eastern, which is 9-3 in league play. Wayland has won 27 games in a row since a 4-1 season opening 4-1 loss to Division 1 and state-ranked Jenison.
