After scoring only 40 points in the season opener a week ago, the Wayland boys’ varsity basketball team more than doubled the output with 84 Tuesday evening.

Unfortunately, the other team, Hamilton, scored 89, and the Wildcats’ record fell to 0-2.

Wayland had no fewer than five players score in double figures. Junior guard Riley Fields led the parade with 18 points, junior guard Justin Holtz had 16, sophomore forward Carter Dean had 14, sophomore Caleb Wielhouwer 13 and junior guard-forward Matt Guppy 11.

Tyler Omness and Austin Reeder both finished out the scoring with six apiece.

Quentin Sorens and Andrew Helder both dropped in 14 points to lead the Hawkeyes.
