
The Wayland High School softball team’s overall record as of today (Monday, April 27) is 8-5.
The Wildcats opened O-K Gold Conference play Monday by sweeping a doubleheader against Grand Rapids Union, 17-0 and 16-0.
Winning pitchers Madi Ludema and Mackenzie Kositsky both hurled shutout victories. Ludema struck out 11 batters and didn’t yield a walk. Kosinski gave up three hits and struck out six.
Both pitchers helped their own causes offensively as well. Ludema delivered two home runs and four runs batted in. Kositsky came up with five hits, including a homer.
Also on the offensive side, Laney Wolf had a triple, three RBIs and enjoyed a perfect day at the plate.
The ‘Cats lost two of three encounters Saturday at the Holland Invitational, losing 4-0 to state-ranked (No. 7) Division 1 Grand Haven and 3-2 to state-ranked (No. 6) Division 2 Hudsonville Unity Christian, but beating Livonia Stevenson 5-3.
