Wildcats’ record-setting grid season of misery ends

The Wayland varsity football team Friday night completed a record season it’s not at all happy about.

The Wildcats lost 55-6 to O-K Gold Conference rival Forest Hills Eastern, bringing the season total of points scored against them to 386 in nine games, an average of almost 43 per contest. The old record was set two seasons ago at 365, also more than 40 points per game.

Wayland has gone winless in nine outings four times in the 10 seasons since 2012. The Wildcats also have recorded just one victory in each of four seasons since 2009. They have had only one winning campaign, 6-5, in that span over the last 13 seasons.
