The Wayland boys’ varsity bowling team lost 17-13 to Forest Hills Eastern Monday in one of its better performances of late.
“We knew we had a chance to win tonight, but we just can’t seem to get over that hump,” said coach Sherry Miklusicak.
After losing the first Baker game by 20 pins, the Wildcats bounced back and took Baker game two by 49 pins and found themselves ahead 6-4.
The bottom fell out in game one of the individual round. Christian Courser was the lone man to take his point and another Wayland bowler lost another point by only 5 pins.
“We were behind 12-7 at this point. We could still win but we would have to take nine of the next 11 points.
Game 2 was so much closer. Courser took his second point of the evening. The next point was lost by just 10 pins, the third point was lost by 12 pins, and the fourth point was lost by 10 pins. Senior Dillon Smith took his point. Wayland won total by just 6 pins so that gave the ‘Cats another 4 points. The score was now just 2 points apart.
“We needed to take the grand total of the two games to tie,” Miklusicak said. “We didn’t. Even though it was a loss, the boys didn’t give up and fought to the very end.”
