The Wayland varsity softball team pushed its O-K Gold Conference record to 4-0 and its overall record to 11-2 Tuesday afternoon by sweeping a doubleheader against Kenowa Hills.
The Lady Wildcats scored 16 runs twice, winning 16-0 and 16-1, with pitchers Harmony Laker and Maddi Ludema throwing a one-hitter and a two-hitter in the two games.
Laker tossed the one-hit shutout and fanned 10 batters in the opener, which was limited to five inning because of the 10-run mercy rule.
She and junior first sacker Carli Miklusicak both drilled three hits to pace the offensive attack. Both had a double, as did Kami Morse and Reese Veltman. Ludema had two hits and three runs batted in.
Ludema only had to work three innings on the mound in the nightcap. She helped her own cause with a double, Veltman and Morse added a couple of two-baggers each, Mikliusicak had one and Morse delivered the biggest blow, a home run.
Laker, Ludema, Stallard and Veltman contributed two hits apiece.
The Wildcats played nine runs in the first inning and seven more in the third to shorten the contest to just three innings. They collected 16 hits in the first game and 14 more in the nightcap.
