The Wayland boys’ varsity soccer team lost 3-0 Tuesday to O-K Gold Conference rival Hastings.
“A rough opening 20 minutes of the first half was enough to spoil any hopes of the Wildcats winning their second conference game of the season,” said coach Ben Sleeman. “Two quick goals by the Saxons, followed by a third goal that looked to be offside put the visitors on their heels and forced them to play more defensively than they would have liked.”
The second half saw a much more even game with the Wildcats threatening to score on several occasions, but just not quite able to beat the keeper and get themselves on the scoreboard.
The loss brings their conference record to 1-2 and their overall record to 3-8.
Junior goalkeeper Jake Larsen made twp saves in the loss.
The boys come back home Thursday evening for a conference clash with South Christian at 6:45.
