Wildcats split pair of non-conference baseball doubleheaders

The Wayland baseball team has split Boys-Baseballits last two doubleheaders, both non-league encounters.

The Wildcats most recently split with Greenville Wednesday, winning the opener 4-1, but dropping the nightcap 9-8.

Senior southpaw Zach Brog tossed a four-hitter at the Yellow jackets and struck out 10 batters. Austin Page drove in two runs for the offense.

The Wildcats struggled in the early going of the nightcap and fell behind 5-0 in the first two innings. They made it a close ballgame near the end, playing four runs in the sixth and two more in the bottom of the seventh, but just fell short by one run.

Wayland had the potential winning run on first base, Greenville’s defense held.

Hunter Brown, Zach Brog, Mitch Swainston and Chris Kincaid all had multiple-hit games in the loss.

The Wildcats earlier had split a doubleader against Rapid Rapids Union, taking a 3-2 decision, but losing 12-0.
