The Wayland varsity baseball team split a doubleheader with O-K Gold Conference rival Middleville Thornapple Kellogg Friday afternoon.
The Wildcats took the nightcap 2-1 after dropping the opener 9-0.
Hunter Brown pitched a complete game for Wayland in game two, scattering three hits over seven innings while striking out four.
On the offensive side, Brown also was the star, as he went 3 for 3 with a double, a home run and both RBIs.
Wayland, which collected six hits in the contest, scored a single run in the first inning and added another in the fourth. TK came up with its lone run in the seventh to turn the game into a nail-biter.
The Wildcats, however, struggled in the opener against the visiting Trojans. They managed only four hits and committed nine errors. Middleville had nine hits to go with the errors to create plenty of base runners.
Wayland now is 2-5 on the season overall.
