Wayland High School’s varsity baseball team dropped both ends of a double-header Monday with the newly crowned OK-Gold Conference champion Pioneers of East Grand Rapids.

The Wildcats lost the first game by a score of 13-2. They took a 2-0 lead into the fourth inning, but ultimately, 14 walks by Wildcat pitchers led to the Pioneer comeback victory.

Picking up hits for the Wildcat offense were Mitch Dykstra, Travis Cutler, Cam Ritz, and Jared Rankin who supplied both RBIs via a bases loaded double off the fence in the bottom of the second inning.

In the first game, Carter Morse went 2-for-2 for the Wildcats, while Travis Cutler and Kayd Hulst were both 1-for-2.

Wayland, now 12-22 for the season overall, will play East Grand Rapids again Thursday and then play in a pre-district contest.
