Wildcats swept in awful day twin bill vs. Byron Center

It was a just plan awful day Thursday for the Wayland varsity baseball team, as it was swept by Byron Center in a doubleheader, 11-1 and 14-1.

Coach Travis Wilcox said the problems were “The inability to throw strikes and make plays in the field.”

The ‘Cats pitching staff struggled to throw strikes and the fielders kicked the ball around to the tune of 12 errors in the opener.

Taking the loss on the mound was Logan Sevigny, as he went 3 1/3 innings, surrendering 10 runs, 3 of them earned, on 6 hits. Sevigny was 1-for-2 at the plate for Wayland, scoring the Wildcats’ lone run of the game. Jeff Betz led the Wildcat offense in game one, going 2-for-3 at the plate.

Taking the loss on the mound in the nightcap for the Wildcats was Mitchell Dykstra. Sevigny led the charge offensively, going 2-for-2 at the plate.

The Wildcats are back in action next Wednesday, April 20, when they travel to Thornapple-Kellogg High School to begin O-K Gold Conference action. The doubleheader will begin at 4:15 p.m.
