The Wayland varsity football team Thursday evening edged Lansing Waverly 38-36 in a non-conference encounter to run its overall season record to 2-0.

The Wildcats were coming off a 20-0 shutout victory in their season opener a week ago.

Wayland will open O-K Gold Conference play at 7 p.m. Friday at home against Grand Rapids South Christian.
