The Wayland boys’ bowling team Wednesday bounced back from its loss Tuesday to powerhouse Northview with a 29-1 win over a young South Christian squad.
Representing Wayland for the match were all seniors because it was their last high school home contest.
“When the season began I had a surreal moment where I realized I had pretty much grown men standing in front of me,” said coach Sherry Miklusicak. What happened to the little freshman who were just beginning to learn how to bowl and love the game?
“Tonight was the same surreal moment when I knew it was coming to an end. This is a really good team and better yet a really great group of kids. They like each other and cheer for each other. Not many coaches are blessed like we have been.
“I will be so sad to see them go; but, we have some things to still accomplish. Our season is not over, we still have two away matches, the post conference tournament, MHSAA Regionals, and we plan on making it to the MHSAA State Tournament!”
Starting the night with two Baker game wins were: Raynie Arendsen, who rolled three strikes and a spare. Wil Dewing had three strikes and a spare as well. Dominik Baker marked three times and Kyle VanEss went four for five.
The Wildcats rolled games of 186 and 191.
Game one high games were by Wil Dewing 171, Dominik Baker 184, and Kyle VanEss 234. Game two the Wildcats were a little relaxed, assured of the win after game one.
Kyle VanEss was high game with a 203.
The varsity ladies rolled a big 840+ game and may or may not have beaten the boys by 70+ pins?
“No harm done, just a very nice score by the ladies which may be the conference high game of the season!” Miklusicak said.
The night ended with a parent led dinner and recognition of the senior bowlers!
Miklusicak noted, “We will be losing five men and five women regular members of our teams, plus two foreign exchange students.”
