Wildcats win 2 close games to gain twin bill sweep

The Wayland varsity baseball team picked up a doubleheader sweep Tuesday, edging Forest Hills Eastern 3-2 and 2-1.

Chris Kincaid started on the mound for the Wildcats, picking up the win, going six scoreless innings on four hits, striking out three and walking four. Carter Morse entered in the seventh inning and picked up the save, striking out two.

Leading the way for the Wayland Union offense were Ben Barnes, Carter Morse and Travis Cutler. Barnes was 1-for-3 with a run scored, Morse was 1-for-3 with an RBI, and Cutler was 1-for-3.

The Wildcats took the first game, as Keaton McNees picked up the win on the mound, pitching 5 innings and allowing two runs (one earned) on two hits, striking out four and walking two. Chris Kincaid picked up the save, pitching two hitless and scoreless innings, striking out two and walking one.

Leading the offensive attack for the Wildcats were Carter Morse, Mitch Dykstra, Jamie Snyder, Ben Barnes and Travis Cutler. Morse was 2-for-3 with 2 RBIs and a stolen base, Dykstra was 1-for-3 with a run scored, and Snyder was 1-for-2.

Barnes scored two runs for the victors and Cutler delivered the game-winning RBI in the top of the sixth inning.

Wayland now is 10-18 overall for the season.
