Wayland High School 6-7 junior Zack Nieuwkoop has received an offer of an athletic scholarship to play basketball at Ferris State University.
He announced the development Tuesday evening on Facebook.
Nieuwkoop, who has been on fire on the hardcourt for the Wildcats in the last month, will graduate from Wayland in the spring of 2017. He has been a member of the varsity basketball team since his freshman year.
The junior standout scored 30 points to pace the Wildcats to a 79-59 victory Tuesday night over South Christian. He has averaged 25 points per game in the last four contests.
Wayland, with a 9-1 overall record, is ranked number four in the latest state-wide Class B Associated Press high school basketball poll.
Ferris State is an NCAA Division II school that competes in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletics Conference along with rivals Grand Valley State, Northern Michigan, Northwood, Michigan Tech and Wayne State.
