Youthful Lady Wildcats sweep Wyoming; now 6-3

Wildcat teammates congratulate Capt. Ally Longstreet at home plate after her three-un homer.

The Wayland varsity softball team, perhaps the youngest outfit in school history, improved its overall season record to 6-3 Tuesday with a doubleheader sweep over Wyoming.

The Lady Wildcats prevailed 9-4 and 15-2 to move their O-K Gold Conference record to 2-0.

Captain outfielder Ally Longstreet, the only senior on the squad, had a huge day at the plate. She tripled in the opener and drilled a three-run homer in game two.

Kennedy Cole also had a triple in the first game, Kayla Reed drove in a couple of runs, Rya VanderKooi had a hit and Grace Kincaid belted a double.

Haley Dobry, Emma Ludema, Lauren Chiaramonte, and Kayla Reed all had hits in the nightcap.

The Lady Wildcats will get a stiff test Thursday afternoon at home against a South Christian group that’s always breathing down their necks for the league title.
