The Wayland varsity baseball team opened the season Friday with an 11-0 loss in five innings to non-conference opponent Zeeland East.
The Chix erupted for 10 runs in the third inning to blow open a 1-0 struggle and tighten the ballgame down to five frames.
The loss spoiled the debut of new varsity coach Rob Hambly.
