Zeeland West edges Lady Wildcats on soccer field, 3-1

Girls-SoccerThe Wayland girls’ soccer team lost a 3-1 heart breaker Tuesday evening at Zeeland West. The loss dropped the Lady Wildcats’ overall season record to 2-2.

Brinley Nieuwenhuis scored the opening goal six minutes into the game after a pass by Madelyn Gray. The rest of the half was back and forth with both teams challenging to score the next goal. Unfortunately, it was Zeeland West who struck back and tied the score with 4 minutes remaining in the half.
The second half saw a quick penalty kick goal followed by a second goal from the field as Zeeland took a 3-1 lead early in the half. Wayland proceeded to dominate possession and chances, but could not find the back of the net to get back into the game.
Hannah Anderson came up with four saves in goal.
The girls are back in action after spring break when they face off against Allendale on the road before beginning their O-K Gold Conference schedule against South Christian at home.
