Viking boys 6th, girls 7th at Hastings team track meet

The Hopkins boys’ varsity track team placed sixth and the women were seventh in the Hastings Team Invitational Friday.

The Vikings boys collected 552.5 team points for the day. Hudsonville won with 924. The Lady Vikings accumulated 507 points and Grand Ledge won with 1007.

Nine male and female squads entered the field. Hopkins boys scored heavier in field events.

Senior Trent Baugh was the only Viking male win a first-place medal, as he went 19 feet, 10 inches in the long jump.

Landen Klinge captured the runner-up slot in the pole vault by clearing 12 feet 3 inches.

Baugh finished third in the open 400-meter run with a time of 52.7 seconds. Mason Tomes tossed the shot 43-01.25 to take fourth. Tomes added a sixth in the discus.

For the Lady Vikings, sophomore Kambria Moored turned in a second-pace finish in the 100-meter high hurdles in 16.98 seconds and she was runner-up in the 300-meter hurdles in 49.87 seconds. She was sixth in the 200-meter dash in 28.71 seconds.

Jaeden Harshberger also was sixth in the open 400, with a personal best 1:05.35. She also placed fifth in t he high jump by clearing 4-10.

Nevaeh Helderop was sixth in the 800 run, in 2:39.8 and she took fifth in the 1600 in 5:49.59. The workhorse senior came back in the 3200 to take sixth in 13:03.97.

Sierra Emaus went 15-5 in the long jump to score a fourth.
