Wayland High School graduate CJ Barrimond has been chosen Volunteer of the Year for her work at Central California Veterans Hospital of Fresno, Calif.
She was presented with the award during the Volunteer Appreciation Awards Event.
“I was so shocked I was crying,” she said. “I was afraid my eye liner was messed up when I got up there in front of everyone. I could not really speak.
“I was so appreciative of those who put me in for that award I really don’t know what to say, but thank you so much. I love giving to my veterans all that I can. They need me as much as I need them. They keep me going.
“Without them I would truly be lost. Those veterans I sit with who have no one else, they have me. I will always be there for them. They will never die alone if I am around.”
