Robby Young, a 2003 graduate of Wayland High School, coached his Rampart High School cross country boys’ team to its fifth consecutive conference championship earlier this month and Thursday both the Rams’ boys’ and girls’ team qualified for the state meet for the second year in a row.
Young began teaching earth science, physics and chemistry at Rampart High School, in Colorado Springs, in 2008 after graduating from Grand Valley State University. His boys’ teams have qualified for the state meet in all six of his seasons and the girls have done so in three of the last four years. The girls were runners-up in this year’s league meet.
Young was a three-sport athlete at Wayland, earning 12 varsity letters, competing in cross country, track and swimming. He served as a team captain seven times.
At GVSU, Young earned NCAA Division II All-America honors in cross country and he was fourth in the NCAA Division national championships in the steeplechase in 2007.
He is the son of Coleen and David Young of Wayland.
Congratulations to Mr. Young the younger and to the team, Robby is a good man with a great set of parents.
