Wildcat boys, girls have good days at Allegan Invitational

It was another pretty good day for the Wayland High School boys’ track team Friday, as the lads captured first place in the Allegan Invitational.

Wildcats won a couple of relays and copped seven first places in all for the day’s competition, finishing with 102 points, 12 better than runner-up Paw Paw.

The girls didn’t do badly either, taking third place among the 16 teams entered with 75.5 points, behind Otsego and Middleville Thornapple Kellogg.

Taking firsts in the competition for the Wildcats boys were Henry Maass, 100 meters, 11.23 seconds; Jake Reeder, 200, 22.39; 400-meter relay, Drew Hudson, Jake Reeder, Luke Vandezante and Henry Maass, 43-67; the 800 relay, Maass, Brock Wheeler, VadeZande, Reeder, 1:30.8; Shot put, Ashton Kuhlman, 50 feet 7 inches; Alex Hubbard, 300-meter hurdles, 41.41; and 1600-meter relay, Jake Reeder, Chance Lenhart, Alex Hubbard and Brock Wheeler, 3:31.47.

Seconds were recorded by Brock Wheeler in the 400-meter dash, and Ethan Simpson in the long jump.

Women’s results:

Firsts — 400 relay, Megan Brogger, Evie Mathis, Quinn Reeder and Laney Wolf, 1:49.07. Pole vault — Evie Mathis, 12-0.

Seconds — Laney Wolf, 100, 13.03; Mackenzie Kosinsky, discus.

Fourths were taken by Wolfe in the 200, Gwen Howard in the high jump and Ryleigh Haveman, Bri Hoogewind, Megan Brogger and Wolf in 1600 relay.
